Although 3M rates their vinyl for 5 years outdoors, it likely won't stay looking new for longer than 2-3 years.

All brands of intermediate van lettering fade much faster than High Performance Van Lettering. All brands of intermediate van lettering shrink around the edges which can leave an adhesive "border" around the van lettering graphics. Due to this tendency to shrink, Intermediate van lettering has a much higher tendency to crack. However, for applications where you only need the lettering to look brand new for up to 2-3 years (like if you are selling your boat for example) then by all means, go with the lowest cost lettering solution. On the other hand, if you want extended durability for years to come (no plans to ever sell your boat for example), then you should definitely choose the High Performance van lettering.
